Ross 'tweets' his way to election polling booth

IF you had have mentioned 'tweeting' to Willie Ross ten years ago, the TUV man may have thought you were talking about the birds on his rural Dungiven family farm.

But the oldest running candidate for East Londonderry has harnessed new communications technology throughout his campaign and is now 'tweeting' on a daily basis after embracing popular social networking tool Twitter. Mr Ross has been detailing his canvassing activities across the constituency on his Twitter page http://twitter.com/williamrosstuv, and giving the public an insight into what it's been like on the TUV campaign trail. The Westminster candidate has been updating the internet page via his phone and computer and says the response has been very positive.

Mr Ross tells the Sentinel: "I started using Twitter just before the campaign started and will continue to do so if I win the seat on Thursday. It's definitely a great tool in keeping constituents up to date on our canvassing and to also let them know the kind of support we have been receiving."

The TUV man's 'tweets' have included the response his comeback to politics and criticism of DUP rival Gregory Campbell, who took the seat off Mr Ross in 2001.

Yesterday, after visiting doorsteps in Limavady, the TUV man tweeted: "Great day canvassing in Limavady. Lovely sunshine and very enthusiastic supporters. All this walking is also very good for the waistline."

Last week, after another day on the campaign trail the TUV candidate wrote: "People living in the Limavady rural areas are telling me they are glad to see me back... Now they have someone to vote for!"

Mr Ross has also detailed his visits to Coleraine, Mountsandel and Kilrea on his page. UCUNF East Londonderry candidate, Lesley Macaulay has also been using Twitter throughout her campaign http://twitter.com/lesley4change.
