Ross’s trick shots are takingcyber rugby world by storm

A young Donegal rugby player’s skills are taking the internet by storm.

A Youtube video, pictured above, featuring 12-year-old Ross Doogan has been viewed more than 14,000 times since being uploaded on July 18.

The video - called Ross Doogan Rugby Skills Shots - was filmed by his brother and shows him carrying out a variety of trick shots - bouncing the ball of both rugby posts, and kicking it into bins through both grubber kicks and drop kicks.

The most amazing spectacle is when he kicks the ball over the house, into a bin placed directly on the opposite side.

While Donegal is not an area famed for producing wonderful rugby players, hopes are high that Ross could progress to become even better than one of his idols, Ronan O’Gara.

His father, Eugene told the Sentinel that Ross spends hours every week perfecting his talent.

He said: “Ross started playing rugby when he was six, met his hero Brian O’Driscoll when he was 8.

“That day changed his life. Also inspired by Ronan O’Gara and Dan Carter, he has endlessly practiced his kicking and other skills.”

Ross currently plays in Tir Chonall RFC in the U10, U12 and U13s.

He has just finished primary school in Acres National School in Burtonport, and is now moving to Rosses Community School in Dungloe.

Andrew agrees there is no tradition of rugby in West Donegal, but adds that his son is not the only talented young player at the club.

“There will be (a tradition), there are several very talented kids in Tir Chonaill,” he said.
