Rotarians are busy at home and abroad

Lisburn Rotarians operating a water station during the recent Lisburn 10k.

Among key events for the Rotarians was a trip to the WWI battlefields of France.

Members were given a guided tour of the battlefields and monuments. Spokesman, John McDonough, said: “Philip Morrow and Vice President (now President) Sam Patterson were the organisers of the trip and Rotarians Rowan, Robin and their wives and Patrick Coyle were joined by Ian McCorkill, a non-Rotarian who was looking for information on a relative who was part of the Great War. “A wreath in memory of servicemen from Lisburn who lost their lives in the Great War was laid by Sam Patterson.

“The tour was most educational and enjoyed greatly by all those who travelled.”

At home, Lisburn Rotary Club set up and manned a water station, with the help of Lisburn Cathedral Scout Group, at the Lisburn 10k event. “It was a very warm evening,” said Mr McDonough, “and the plentiful supplies of water were greaty appreciated by all the runners, especially our own past-presidents, Dale Orr and Sandra McCabe, who were competing in the run.”
