Rotarians visit respite unit

Carrickfergus Rotarians have been seeing at first hand how their fundraising efforts assist charity.

The Rotary Club helped support the building and equipping of an outdoor play area at Daisy Lodge with some of the money raised with the Tree of Hope at Christmas.

Daisy Lodge, set up by the Cancer Fund for Children and sited on a hillside in the Shimna valley with magnificent views of the Mourne Mountains, provides free therapeutic short breaks for families affected by childhood cancer or children affected by the diagnosis of cancer in a parent.

The Carrickfergus Rotarians and partners were welcomed to Daisy Lodge by Anna Wilkinson, a member of the PR and fundraising team.

The visitors were given a guided tour of the state-of-the-art facilities, including the outdoor play area, and a comprehensive insight into the valuable work of the centre.

The party was entertained to lunch and afterwards, Sam Crowe, president of Carrickfergus Rotary, expressed the club’s gratitude to Anna Wilkinson and presented her with a club bear, courtesy of Rotarian Kim Lindsay, for use in the centre.
