Rotary Club judges Hannah a ‘highly motivated’ leader

LAST Wednesday, members of Ballymoney Rotary Club interviewed and hosted lunch for this year’s finalists in the Rotary leadership Development Competition.

This competition is open to any young citizen of the EU now between 15 years old on 1st April 2011 and under 18 years old on 1st March 2011

Having been selected at school level, this year’s local finalists were Hannah Kirkpatrick from Ballymoney High School and Kathryn Mullan from Dalriada School,

These two young people were interviewed because they have shown leadership potential in educational, vocational, community and /or sporting areas

The interviewers focused on work experience, leadership, planning and organization skills, with the emphasis needed for leadership and leadership potential.

Both young people interviewed were very talented and highly motivated and the panel of judges had a difficult task in choosing one to go forward to the next stage.

The selected winner was Hannah Kirkpatrick from Ballymoney High School who wins £100 cheque for herself and £100 cheque for her school.

Hannah will now go forward to Regional Finals in Carrickfergus on Wednesday 30th November where she will compete against other finalists from - Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Donaghadee, Lagan Valley, Lisburn, Larne and Newtownards

From this Regional Final in Carrickfergus three young people will be selected and will join twenty one others from all over Ireland to go on a Group Study Tour to European Institutions in Strasbourg and Luxembourg and to a Euroscola Day in the European Parliment in March 2011. The trip lasts five days and is a wonderful learning experience for the young people.

The competition is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Ireland and sponsored by the European Parliament.

The club also wish to thank the schools involved for encouraging and helping the young people participate. And thanks also to Vice President of Ballymoney Inner Wheel, Mrs Gwen Laverty, who assisted on the interview panel.

As a result Hannah will now take part in the Regional competition in Carrickfergus later this month. Well done, Hannah!
