Rotary Club of Ballymena join up with Alzheimer’s for Memory Walk

ROTARY Club of Ballymena and Alzheimer’s Society took part in a sponsored walk to raise funds on Saturday, June 9 at ECOS Centre, Ballymena.

Despite the ‘less than sunny’ conditions there was a fantastic turnout and substantial monies raised through sponsorship.

Alzheimer’s Society work to improve the quality of life of those affected by dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting 62% of those diagnosed.

Dementia is a terminal condition

There are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2021. This will soar to 1.7 million by 2050.

Dementia will cost the UK over £23 billion in 2012, and this figure will rise to £27 billion per annum by 2018.

Alzheimer’s Society invests over £6 million in dementia research to improve care for people today and find a cure for tomorrow.
