Rotary Club thanks for Best Breakfast

BANBRIDGE Rotary Club wish to thank all those who attended the November Big Breakfast with Rory Best in aid of five local and international charities and raised an amazing £4,100!

Rotary President Gerry McElvogue expressed his sincere gratitude to local businesses, residents and neighbouring Rotary clubs. He said, “We are delighted with the response to this event, 250 people attended the breakfast and enjoyed the interview with Rory, followed by the raffle of signed jerseys and rugby balls.

“We were overwhelmed with the support from the local business community and it just goes to prove that when you seek help and support it is there in abundance and we should all be proud that collectively we can make a difference.”

Jenny Irvine, Rotary Foundation Chairperson, also wished to thank the Belmont Staff, Donaghy’s Shoes. Mooney Media and Bann Taxis for sponsoring the event. Jenny said, “I was surprised that once we got out there and asked local businesses for their support, they were on board right away and fully supported Rotary members’ efforts to raise the profile of the event and make it worthwhile. It is good to know that in these difficult times, people can still recognise that others are in greater need.”

But the Rotary Club saved their biggest thanks for the man who made it all possible - Rory Best. The club said he is an excellent ambassador for rugby, the Banbridge district and referred to his involvement with one of the charities benefiting from the funds raised. Bothar transports live animals to the undeveloped world.

Rory gave of his time freely and provided some serious insight into the World Cup and some good personal funny stories, keeping the audience enthralled for over an hour.

He kindly signed tickets and happily posed for photographs with the real rugby fans. And great tribute was paid to Mark Orr QC, who it was said proved himself to be a close runner to Michael Parkinson, competently extracting all the interesting stories with apparent ease from Rory.
