Rotary Clubsays thanks

The Rotary Club of Larne has thanked everyone who donated to its recent Christmas fundraising day which raised the sum of £984.

In particular, Rotary would like to thank local businesses, including ASDA, which allowed the club to use its store to assist with the club’s street collection.

Rotary has indicated that approximately 130 food hampers have now been distributed to various charities in the town which will be forwarded to assist local residents who are in need this Christmas.

Food parcels will now be distributed through Salvation Army, Women’s Aid, Action for Children and local churches.

Rotary has also offered thanks to the pupils and teachers to Larne High School who assisted with the packing of hampers.

Thanks was also extended to Larne Methodist Church for the use of its hall.

Rotary supports a range of local and national projects.

These include support for the Action Cancer Big Bus and screening for those age groups not covered by NHS.

The Spirit of Larne Award is a Rotary Club of Larne award given to an individual who works tirelessly for charity.

​Sponsorship of Rotary Young Citizen Award is given to a young person who has gone beyond their required commitment for a particular cause.

Rotary also supports Blood Donation Week and is looking forward to welcoming the NI Blood Transfusion service which will be visiting First Larne Presbyterian Church Hall, on Wednesday December 21, to receive donations.

President of Larne Rotary Club John Shannon said that Larne enjoys one of the highest blood donation levels in the province.

He noted that October was the busiest month for donations when the highest level of blood was donated.

“Blood is a priceless gift which can save lives,”John stated.

“The last blood donation session held in Larne attracted 143 people.

“A total of 113 units of blood were taken and 24 new donors attended.

“We hope even more people attend the next session. Giving blood is easy, it only takes one hour and can save a life.”
