Rotary wish Emma well in Strasbourg

As a result of an impressive showing at regional level, Emma will now join 23 other winners as they embark on the trip of a life-time.

Commencing on February 2nd, the students will firstly sample political life at Stormont, before moving south to Dublin and the Irish Parliament. From there, Strasbourg provides their final destination and the opportunity to not only immerse themselves in the atmosphere of such an arena but to pitch some testing questions to the representatives present.

President of Ballycastle Rotary Club, Jim Boylan is delighted that Emma is able to avail of such a wonderful programme.

“As Rotarians, we are only too keen to encourage young talent,” he told the Times.

“The enthusiasm and natural ability demonstrated by Emma is a testament to the sterling work carried out by her school.

“Indeed we are very fortunate to have forged close links with both secondary establishments in Ballycastle and hope that over the coming years, we have the pleasure of sending more pupils on such an adventure.”

Rotary has the ability to change lives and in the Youth Leadership competition, the opportunity exists to do just that.

President Jim Boylan and New Generations Chair Brenda Caher presented Emma with a trophy in recognition of her achievement.

Rotary events

It is a busy time for Ballycastle Rotary Club.

Following last year’s initial and very successful Burns Night, Ballycastle Rotary once again extends a warm invitation to toast and indeed, more importantly, sample that ‘great chieftain o the puddin race’.

This Friday, January 24th, will be a must for lovers of haggis, tartan and Rabbie.

Billed as a Burns Night Social, patrons can dine, dance and delight in celebratory acknowledgement of the famous Scottish wordsmith’s life and work.

Complete with piper, caller (Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr David Harding) and the obligatory Ode to the Haggis, those in attendance will experience first-hand the elements which combine to make this date such a memorable occasion.

Rumour has it that there might even be a song or two, and as always, contributions from the floor are more than welcome.

Priced at £25 each, tickets can be purchased either through the Central Winebar (07739405543) or from all Rotary Club members.

Patrons will enjoy a four course dinner, entertainment and complimentary dram.

For one night only, the Central Winebar inBallycastle will be transformed into a little piece of Scotland.

Tartan-clad classies and true Scotsmen are a pre-requisite!
