Route laid out as city street party looms

With the Mayor's Parade looming this weekend, organisers are advising people of the planned route and urging them to make use of public transport.

Saturday marks the first Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day under the auspices of the new Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.

More than 10,000 people are expected to celebrate during what’s been described as the city’s most famous street party, this year boasting a royal theme in honour of the queen’s 90th birthday.

“The assembly point will be at Lagan Valley Island,” a spokesperson said.

“The procession will start at 1pm and return to Lagan Valley Island at approximately 2.30pm.

“The route will be as follows: - Queens Road, Linenhall Street, Market Street, Market Square, Railway Street, Magheralave Road, Wallace Park, Seymour Street, Queen’s Road, Lagan Valley Island.

“The council would encourage everybody attending the events to use public transport where possible and to respect the needs of local residents.

“If you are planning to drive, please use city car parking facilities and be respectful of residential areas surrounding Wallace Park.”

The carnival features a variety of international performers, fairytale royalty, musicians and carnival floats combined with local school and community group participants.
