Rower Alan ties the knot

OLYMPIC rower Alan Campbell enjoyed an oar-some day as he married fiancee Juliet Parkinson last Friday.

The World Championship sculler bronze medallist walked down the aisle at All Saints Parish Church, Kingsdon, Somerton in Somerset.

The ceremony was attended by a number of Alan’s rowing rivals including World gold medallist Mahe Drysdale from New Zealand.

Mum Jennifer, who is principal of DH Christie Memorial Primary School, was thrilled about her son’s big day.

She said: Mahe Drysdale and a host of other rowers were present at the wedding.

“The Northern Ireland guests gave Mahe a hard time and insisted that he give Alan a slight edge. He would have nothing to do with it but did concede to allowing him the bronze medal. The craic was good.”

Alan’s bride, Juliet, hails from Somerset.

Alan and Juliet will spend their three-week honeymoon in Las Vegas, Miami and St Lucia in the Carribbean.

28-year-old Alan has already booked his place at the Olympics in London next year.
