Royal Court hosts Causeway Cardiac Support Group

That’s the new respiratory message being promoted by Breathe Easy Causeway, a subsidiary of the British Lung Foundation.

More importantly, the voluntary group is putting into practice what it preaches.

For members have formed a choir which practices regularly. And the big challenge they met successfully was performing at the annual Christmas dinner of Breathe Easy in the Lodge Hotel, Coleraine.

“Lungs Aloud” – the choir’s chosen title, brought a new vibrancy to the Christmas party, with a rendering of eight carols, including their speciality “ Grandma got run over by a reindeer”.

The eight-strong group meets regularly at the Drumsurn home of Brian and Alix Donkin, with Alix directing the sing a long and Hannah Huey accompanying the Group on Keyboard. Other Group members are: - Bill and Nessie Blair, Sam Kelly, Linda Walsh, Marie Hegarty, Mary McCrystal, Annette O’Kane and Margaret Henry. Persuasive efforts are being made to recruit new members.

Breathe Easy Chairperson, Marie Hegarty, said “Expert advice is that singing is good for lung health. I personally can vouch for this. Our annual Christmas Dinner shows that Breathe Easy Causeway is more than about the serious business of raising respiratory awareness.

“We can enjoy ourselves. Indeed, fun and laughter were the order of business at the Lodge Hotel, as, apart from the dinner, and the singalong, members were entertained by Poet Farmer, Brian Rankin whose collections of poems help raise funds for needy children in Africa.”
