Royal mail for Mary

A POPULAR resident at Victoria House Private Residential Home in Rasharkin has celebrated her 103rd birthday.

Relatives, residents, staff and friends of Mary Hamilton came together last Sunday to mark the milestone.

Mary, who is one of the oldest resident at Victoria House, also received a card from The Queen and a gift from the President of Ireland.

Rhonda, officer in charge at Victoria House, told the Times: "Mary is very good and is quite capable of looking after herself. Most days we go to her room and she's already washed and dress ready for the day ahead. She's extremely independent and knows what she wants. She maybe 103-years-old but she can do anything she puts her mind to and sometimes you'd think she was 60-years-old. She really is a delight, a great wee lady and a very popular member of the Home.

Mary is originally from the Coleraine area however has been living at Victoria House for over a year.

Rhonda added: "Mary doesn't like much fuss and so we decided to simply mark her birthday with a cake made by our cook.

"Her family and friends also came to see her with cards and gifts."
