Royal Wedding Day proposal

JULIE-ANN Cooke knew that she would get engaged, she just had no idea it was going to take place on a very special day.

Having risen early due to excitement over the Royal Wedding, she and her boyfriend decided to take a walk in the early morning prior to the television coverage, and it was in a sun-soaked St Columb’s Park, sitting on a park bench that Stephen Coll ‘popped the question’.

“I chose the ring a couple of months ago, but I had no idea that he was gong to ask me to marry him on Friday. I was excited about the Royal Wedding and was awake from about 6am, and the whole house just seemed to get up early, so we decided to go for a walk. We were sitting on a park bench watching the kids and I just turned round to face Stephen and he just asked me,” said a still excited Julie-Ann.

“He knew I was going to say yes anyway, but I didn’t know he and my daughter, Kerri-Lynn had gone the day before to get the ring,” she said, laughing.

“I don’t know how she kept it to herself,” she added.

The couple met a year ago at a ’Stute dinner dance, and they plan to marry next year on August 24 at St Augustine’s Church.

“If the weather is like this next year then it will be absolutely brilliant,” she said.

The couple celebrated their good news with their parents at the Services Club on Friday which coincided with a Royal Wedding celebration dance.
