Run-A-Thon is all set for Ballymena

DEEP RiverRock Belfast City Marathon in partnership with Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice are holding a Run-A-Thon in Tower Centre, Ballymena this Saturday, February, 25.

Organisers will be bringing a treadmill to the shopping centre and will be encouraging shoppers to run or walk for as long as they can in the effort to tot up a marathon total of 26.2 miles by the end of the day.

Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice fundraisers will be present on the day and hope to raise lots of money as well as sign up some runners for the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon on Monday, May 7. NI Children’s Hospice is the Official Nominated Charity for the 2012 event. The charity cares for children and young people with life limiting conditions both in Hospice and in the home environment. Just £30 could pay for one hour of specialist nursing care for a child at home and the local charity are urging the public to get involved in 2012 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon as it offers an excellent fundraising opportunity for experienced athletes and first time runners or walkers alike.

With over 20,000 entrants last year, Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon is one of the biggest participatory events in Northern Ireland. There are categories to suit all abilities including Marathon Run, Marathon Walk (26.2 mile and 9 mile options), Wheelchair Marathon, Relay and Fun Run. The 2012 event will see improvements for runners as well as food, drink and amusements clustered around the excitement of the finish line at Ormeau Park making Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon a brilliant day out for all the family.

The Run-a-thon will be at the Tower Centre from 9am on Saturday, February 25. There will be complimentary Deep RiverRock water for all participants and the opportunity to win a voucher for The Countryman Inn.
