The money was raised by the group consisting of Gemma Montgomery, Jonathan Millar, Jacqui Seymour, Conor McAreavey, Jennifer Johnston and Deborah Boyle, who all ran a 5k race in Ballymena.

Their fundraising was motivated by little Joe Degnan, who was born with a serious heart condition and is currently receiving treatment at the Clark Clinic in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. The Degnan family would like to thank all those from Wee Joe’s Team for their fundraising efforts, and all those who donated.

Sarah Quinlan, executive officer with Children’s Heartbeat Trust, said: “We are very thankful to Wee Joe’s Team for raising these essential funds. This will help us continue to provide support for parents and families of children with heart disease in Northern Ireland.”

She added: “More than 250 children each year are born with heart disease in Northern Ireland and one-third of these children will require further investigation, and even surgery. This support will make a very real difference to the lives of these families and children.”

Children’s Heartbeat Trust works closely with the Clark Clinic to help fund top quality medical equipment and initiatives, ensuring that children with heart disease receive the best care.
