Runners urged to sign up for Park run in aid of the Hospice

Local runners are being urged to sign up for the Lurgan Park 5K and 10k Fun Runs which are being held on Sunday, February 28, at 10am in aid of the Southern Area Hospice Services.

The event has now raised almost £10,000 for the Hospice over the last two years and the 2015 event attracted over 350 runners.

David Wilson, a teacher in St Ronan’s school who helps organise the event said: “We were overwhelmed with the response we got last year.

“There is an ever growing running community in the local area. We have a great mix at the event as we get experienced runners, beginners and walkers. They all come together to raise money for the Hospice.

“Last year, we also had great support from local businesses who both sponsored signage and encouraged their workforce to sign up.

“Lurgan Park is a great setting for the runs and we actually got entries from all over Northern Ireland. Many were visiting the park for the first time and were very impressed with the facilities and the park.”

“CRASH are delighted to be the main sponsors for the third year in a row. We are a business with strong links to the local area and the Hospice. Our staff look forward to taking part and helping out on the day.

“To put an event on like this it is very much a team effort. We have been working with Deirdre Breen and Hospice Volunteers again to make sure the event is a success and also the council has been great in allowing us to use the park.

CRASH Services are providing the medals. In addition The House of Sport are providing the goody bags and the Fitness Factory the warm up and music. All the events costs are met by sponsors, which means that every penny raised in entry donations goes straight to the Hospice.

Southern Area Hospice serves the entire Southern Health Board area, including Lurgan, Newry & Mourne, Craigavon, Banbridge, Portadown, Armagh and Dungannon. With an annual fundraising target of over £2 million, SAHS need to raise over £250 every single hour to help people affected by terminal illness in Southern Board Area.
