Rural Post Office funding

Three local post offices have been declared eligible for improvement funding and Councillors are ready to give them support should they wish to apply.

They were made aware last week that Martinstown P.O., Craigs in Cullybackey and Glarryford P.O. could seek a grant for improvements from Post Office Ltd.’s Community Branch Fund.

Correspondence revealed the Fund was launched last summer to support the most vulnerable UK post offices but that so far only three N.I. post offices had applied.

Describing the Fund as “a wonderful thing”, Cllr Billy Henry said: “Each and every one of us have seen over the last number of years how rural Post Offices are slowly but surely declining...This is something that could help our rural post offices and, in particular, the three that are mentioned”.

He went on to successfully call on Council to write to the Post Office and the Consumer Council “to see if we can come together and help the post offices concerned”.
