He was 69 years-old

The veteran BBC presenter had been ill for some time.

BBC presenters Enda McClafferty and Elaine Magee told listeners on the morning programme that Gerry, who they described as a “great character” was dead.

Enda described the great warmth that Gerry Anderson had with his listeners.

Joe Mahon who worked with Gerry for many years said he had an “enormous charm” and how he often has listeners eating out of his hands.

“Gerry was a great listener as well as a great talker,” he said.

“He was very well read and very intelligent.”
