'Sad loss' for district

TRIBUTE has been paid following the death of Carrick RAFA and Whitehead Royal British Legion stalwart Eric Day.

Mr Day, whose wife Isobel is an Alliance member of Carrick Borough Council, died on Tuesday morning.

Councillor Sean Neeson extended condolences to his party colleague on her bereavement.

He said: "Eric played an important role in the Royal British Legion over the years and was also closely involved with the Royal Air Forces Association.

"He made a major contribution to the borough and my sympathy goes to Isobel at this very sad time."

Meanwhile, at the monthly meeting of Carrick Borough Council on Monday, members observed a minute's silence in memory of former firefighter and bowler Billy McMenamin, who died suddenly at his home in Whitehead on Thursday.

They also remembered William Cumming, who died on September 24.
