Alderman McClure has been a Coleraine councillor since 1977 and was mayor of Coleraine three times and deputy mayor eleven times.

James was a founder member of the DUP and party president for many years

He also had the distinction of serving on both Ballymoney and Coleraine Councils at the same time.

Former Council colleague, Maurice Bradley said: “There are so any attributes I could cite - but the greatest would be to say as a councillor we will never see his like again- nor witness such dedication on behalf of the electorate as we saw from James McClure.

“I would join with the Mayor in sending deepest sympathies to the entire McClure family and family circle.”
