Staff from Translink and Roads Service supported International Level Crossing Awareness Day by informing pedestrians and motorists about the potential risks at such locations.

Keith Pollock, Level Crossing Risk co-ordinator, Translink said: “The majority of crossing users are responsible however some are tempted to take risks by trying to beat the barriers or dash over the crossing.

“Aside from ILCAD however we are involved in a number of rail safety projects throughout the year; We’ve recently been touring schools across Northern Ireland with our rail safety project for 11-15 year olds, iPredict. The project which uses performance, magic and digital media to predict the outcomes of an imaginary train journey and is designed to deliver key rail safety messages, including not trespassing on tracks, to this important target audience.”

“We also carry out training and awareness events for employees of organisations such as NI Water and NI Railways is always keen to share this knowledge with similar groups.”
