‘Safer Food equals Safer Stay’ in Moyle

SEVERAL businesses attended a free seminar hosted by Moyle Council’s Environmental Health Department to supply copies of ‘Safer Food = Safer Stay’ and provide advice and support on how to complete it.

Thirty people from twenty-six premises attended the seminar representing one third of this type of business registered in the district of Moyle.

A council report said: ‘The Environmental Health Department has produced a documented food safety management system (also known as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) ahead of the 2012 tourist season. The document known as Safer Food = Safer Stay is a bespoke guide which has been developed for small Guest House/Bed and Breakfast premises with three or fewer guest rooms serving only a traditional continental or cooked breakfast and also addresses preparing packed lunches.

‘Current Food Standards Agency documentation contains more detail than is neccessary for most guest houses and bed and breakfasts.

‘Using ‘Safer Food = Safer Stay’ will enable the relevant premises to: comply with the law; show how they make food safe; train staff; protect the business’s reputation; improve the business.

This is of particular benefit to these premises ahead of their inspection for Food Hygiene Rating Scheme purposes and will enable them to maximise their score. A further seminar is planned to facilitate people unable to attend the first seminar, the report said.
