Safety advice leaflet to be distributed to schools

The move comes after PCSP members, councillors and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators met with senior police officers at Mossley Mill on Friday (October 12) to discuss recent reports of suspicious approaches to children.

Speaking to the Times after the meeting, PCSP Chairman, Councillor Robert Hill, commented: “I would like to reassure the public that the police are taking this very seriously and are doing everything in their power to prevent any further incidents and that we, as public representatives, will do everything we can to support them by asking the public to be vigilant and to ensure their children know what to do if approached by a stranger.”

Councillor Billy Webb added: “Incidents such as these are very worrying, but with the action taken by elected representatives, community workers, the PSNI and the local community I hope our children remain safe.

“I would urge anyone who sees anything suspicious to try and get a car registration and immediately contact the police.”

Over the coming weeks, all local schools will be contacted by the PSNI’s Schools Liaison Officer to offer advice and guidance. Child Safety information leaflets carrying tips for parents and children will also be distributed to schools and other youth facilities.
