Safety concerns over footpath

Slieve Croob Councillor Parrick Clarke has called on Transport NI to take action to address the poor condition of sections of the Bann Road footpath from near the Leitrim road junction to the council recycling centre.

Councillor Clarke said, “I have been contacted regarding the appalling condition of the pedestrian footpath.

“The complaints are about parts of the pedestrian footpath on various sections of the Bann road causing walkers to move out onto the main road due to overgrown briars and hedgerow and weeds as well as poor surface.

“There are also parts of the pedestrian footpath on the Bann Road which need completely weeded and properly cleared with a shovel and yard brush not just sprayed as again the complaints are off people having to step onto the Bann Road.

“I have inspected the whole section of pedestrian footpath on the Bann Road from the Leitrim Road junction heading towards Castlewellan. The pedestrian footpath then from the 40mph speed limit towards the Council recycling centre this part is especially bad and needs urgent action.

“I have reported this same pedestrian footpath on the Bann Road numerous times to Transport NI and I am now requesting that a full inspection is carried out and the appropriate actions taken to ensure the safety of walkers is not compromised.”
