SAFETY FEARS OVER CROSSING

Reports of numerous “near-misses” have prompted calls for motorists to slow down on approach to the crossing and give way to pedestrians.

Leading appeals for drivers to exercise due care and attention were Lagan Valley MLA Brenda Hale and Dromore Councillor Paul Rankin.

It was to Mrs. Hale’s nearby office that a number of anxious residents brought their concerns over the Church Street crossing and office manager Mr. Rankin said all shared fears that it was only a matter of time before there was an accident.

“We would appeal for road-users/traffic to slow down and give way when approaching the crossing,” he said, signalling an intention to raise the issue with local police, having already approached Roads Service for advice or assistance.
