Safety trike fund launched for Keigan

For most parents, seeing their child learn to ride their first bike is a proud and happy experience.

But when your child suffers from a combination of medical problems including cerebral palsy, it’s not quite so simple, as local woman, Donna Moore, knows only too well.

Her five and a half year old son, Keigan McIlhagga, a pupil at Harryville Primary, suffers from cerebral palsy with left side hemiplegia and increased muscle tone.

The brave little boy also has to wear a leg splint and has limited power on the left side of his body.

“Having said that, Keigan is still very active to the best of his abilities and loves to take part in any games or sports,” explains Donna, from Tullagh Brow. “He and his two older brothers are great together.”

However, what would really give Keigan a huge boost is his very own bike.

For most of us that means a quick trip down to the local cycle shop and a swift purchase.

But to purchase the special safety trike which Keigan requires will cost in the region of £1000.

“Keigan needs the specially adapted and reinforced trike to keep him safe and that’s why we’re raising funds through a fireside quiz and a few other events. We’ve even set up a facebook page where well-wishers can track the progress of the appeal,” says Donna.
