Safety work welcomed

A DRUMSURN Councillor has spoken of her relief after five years of campaigning for a footpath on a "death trap" stretch of road paid off.

Work on the much needed footpath for the Beech Road in the village began last Monday and Sinn Fein Councillor Brenda Chivers says she is delighted the area can benefit from the crucial construction.

"This has been an issue for longer than five years and it is great to see it finally take shape.

"This road was a death trap for anyone trying to walk it without a footpath in place and I know residents are very happy to see the work beginning.

"This project has been work in progress for me since 2005. This was a manifesto commitment at the last local government election and I am delighted that it is now work in progress for the Road Services contractors. The new footpath and improved sight lines from Fir Avenue to Beech Road will greatly improve road safety for the local residents and passing traffic."
