It followed the initiative of a club member to contact renowned international artist Desmond Kinney - famous for his work with mosaics - to craft three individual four feet by eight feet panels to cover blank wall areas outside the clubhouse.

Desmond was given a brief and artistic licence to create what he thought would best represent the activities of the club and its location. After a visit at the end of last summer, he discussed his ideas with the member and provided sketches that were presented to the committee and a consensus was reached. The pieces were completed over the winter months by Kinney Design. The final artwork is a Venetian glass mosaic tesserae illustration of what County Antrim Yacht Club is all about.

Club Commodore David Jamison said: “The feedback so far has been incredible. The mosaic mural really enhances the exterior of our building. By providing such a focal point we are finding that it is really engaging people as more and more visitors and passers-by are stopping to view this and have a chat.

“It is wonderful for the club members to benefit from this marvellous work now on display. How fortunate to have had the generous member in our midst willing to fund the commission of such an innovative International artist who has created a lasting legacy not only for the Club but for the whole community.”

Past Commodore Stephen Foster commented: “It is adding to the maritime character of our historic seafront, truly heritage in the making.”
