Sainsbury's sausage boost for local supplier

SAINSBURY'S has announced a multi-million pound deal with Ballymena based supplier Doherty & Gray which will see four sausage products stocked nationally in Sainsbury's stores.

The contract is a tremendous boost for the local company which will create a number of new jobs and lead to increased productivity with Doherty and Gray’s local supply base.

The new lines - Irish Recipe Sausage, Taste the Difference Steak Sausage, Butchers Choice Beef Sausage and Butchers Choice Sausage Meat will be stocked in over 800 stores throughout England, Wales, Scotland and locally in Northern Ireland.

Siobhan Barnes, Pork and Sausage Buyer for Sainsbury’s said: “We are very aware of the quality products offered by Doherty & Gray in our stores locally as we already stock a number of their lines. It is however, a testament to the quality of Northern Ireland produce that these four lines will now be available right throughout Sainsbury’s network of stores.

“It is fantastic to be announcing this new deal following another successful celebration of the local agri -sector at the Balmoral Show.”

Seamus Doherty, Doherty & Gray said: “We are delighted to be stocking these four lines nationally with Sainsbury’s. It reinforces our relationship with Sainsbury’s and opens up the door to other opportunities with the company nationally.

“It is a great boost locally as this contract not only means additional jobs at Doherty & Gray but also increased demand from our local supply base of farms.

“All of our pork and beef is sourced from Farm Quality Assured Beef and Pork farmers in Northern Ireland which fits with our corporate strategy of sourcing where possible from the local supply base.”

The new lines will be available in Sainsbury’s stores right across the UK from the end of May.
