Salmon and Whiskey Festival is back again!

After the huge success of last year’s inaugural Bushmills Salmon and Whiskey Festival, the organisers have come up with an even bigger and better programme of events for this year’s Festival.

Running from September 20 - 22, the Festival is dedicated to promoting the village, its culture, heritage and, of course, its world famous produce - salmon and whiskey.

One of the organisers Jamie Laverty told the Times: “The two most famous products from Bushmills are salmon and whiskey and both come from the river. And of course, the reason that Bushmills even exists as a settlement is because of the river and that’s what we are celebrating.”

Jamie gave us just a little taste of some of the events happening next weekend.

“On the Friday we have the Little Miss Bushmills competition as well as a Junior Disco, talks in the Visitors’ Centre, an exhibition from the Robert Quigg VC committee and the unveiling of a very special wall hanging.

“Saturday will have a fantastic line-up of music with groups like the eight-piece Kask music and dance group, Big Al who is doing a tribute to the Great British Bands from The Rolling Stones through to One Direction, Lee McVicker who is a local singer/songwriter, the Causeway Crew’s Rock School and Michael E Thomas.

“We also have the Border Reevers who appear in period costume and re-enact histotical scenes, an old fashioned fun fair with swingboats, carousels and shooting gallery.

“There will be cooking demonstrations and a special Festival Bake Off competition based on the Great British Bake Off.

“The Salmon Fisheries is having an open day and the Distillery is offering free drams and a talk about the history of whiskey in Bushmills.

“All the churches in the village will be having open days too.

“On Sunday we have more talks and tours and demonstrations including a walking tour looking at the Industrial History of Bushmills,” concluded Jamie.
