Salvation Army hall reopens after revamp

The public is invited to go along to the 10.30am worship service, when one of the longest serving members of the corps will cut the ribbon.

The hall will also be open on Saturday, December 3 from 10am-4pm for the people of the town to drop in, have some refreshments, and find out more about The Salvation Army.

During the refurbishment, members were able to continue to meet for worship at the Christian Workers’ Union church in the town.

The Salvation Army has been in existence in Portadown for almost 136 years and there are plans to open the hall on a daily basis, offering the community a variety of reasons to go along.

Activities planned are: Mondays, 1-3pm, The Friendship Club, open to senior citizens; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays the doors will be open from 10am-1pm for The Meeting Place, where anyone can drop in and share a cuppa. Said Captain Sue Whitla, “We want to be available, to offer a listening ear, to help practically if we can. There will also be opportunity to sit quietly, to pray, to meditate on God’s word, to listen to some Christian music, or just to come aside from a busy world and rest.”

On Wednesdays from 9.30am-12pm it’s Sally Songs mums & tots club, where there is free play, interactive music and movement, story-time, and a chance for mums to meet

Worship Services on Sunday are 10.30am and 6.30pm and Sunday School at 12pm, with Bible Study on Wednesday evenings at 7.45pm.
