Salvation Army overwhelmed by the public’s generosity

This year’s Salvation Army Toy Appeal is the biggest it’s been for many years.

DUP MP David Simpson, MLA Stephen Moutray and Councillor Carla Lockhart paid a visit to Lurgan Salvation Army to congratulate the organisation on their hugely successful Christmas Toy Appeal.

Speaking following the visit Mr Simpson said: “This year’s toy appeal was I believe the biggest it has been in many years thus demonstrating the increasing need within society for financial assistance at Christmas time.

“The Salvation Army have been doing this for many years and the good will of the people in the area overwhelmed the Army this year again with hundreds of toys being donated.”

He added: “On speaking with Major Williamson I was impressed to hear that over 200 families this year benefited from the toy appeal and that Social Services were willing to assist in the distribution to the most needy in society.

“I would commend every Salvation Army member that gave of his or her time and effort to carry out this worthy task.

“As MP for the area I am always impressed by the charitable giving and the commitment of organisations such as the Salvation Army at Christmas to those less fortunate that others.”
