Samantha’s setting the Gold standard

Hillsborough’s Samantha Moore is the only goldsmith from the island of Ireland invited to take part in a celebration of design excellence at London’s Goldsmith’s Pavilion.

Former Belfast Art College student Samantha (26), who has won several top awards for her contemporary jewellery and silverware designs, travelled to Somerset House for ‘Celebrating British Contemporary Design in the Fields of Jewellery, Silver and Furniture’, which runs until the end of this week.

“It’s a great honour to be asked to participate in a Goldsmiths’ Company show,” she said ahead of the event.

“Some of the UK and Ireland’s most talented young and established names in jewellery design will be there, so I will be in very good company. I’m working like mad to complete my collection in time.”

Samantha, who also recently exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, will be taking her ‘Migration of Swallows’ bowl to the show, where everything is for sale to avid collectors.

“I would describe my style as elegant, indulgent and a little bit of fun,” she said. “I particularly enjoy using precious and semi-precious gems combined with layers and textures in silver and gold.”

Winner of a number of prestigious awards, including British Festival of Silver’s ‘Rising Star’ accolade two years in a row and The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ Graduate award, Samantha has been described as “the most sought-after silversmith of her generation in Ireland”.

After apprenticing and refining her skills under the tutelage of renowned Killyleagh goldsmith Graham Harron, she recently spread her wings to set up her own bench at Dunmurry.
