Samantha's wax night gets off to a great start

A local girl has planned a four-month fund-raising campaign for Cancer Research UK.

Samantha Heaney's first effort got off to a flying start with a chest wax in Ballycastle which raised 300.

Three brave souls - Stephen Christie, Francis Watson and Danny McNeill - volunteered to undergo the treatment in the Castle Bar after getting sponsorship from family and friends.

Samantha, whose mother, Ann, and aunt were both diagnosed with cancer some months ago, was overjoyed with the outcome and described the co-operation and help from those involved at the Castle Bar as fantastic.

"After my mother and aunt found out they had cancer I decied to do something about it. I thought that I would do something over a four-month period to raise what I could for Cancer Research," Samantha told the Times.

She added: "My mother is responding well to treatment at present and we are just hoping that things progress in a positive way."

Samantha, a 26-year-old dental nurse and carer, is planning a fancy dress night in Ballycastle later this month as her next fund-raising event and that will be followed by a car wash.

"We will be doing quite a bit, but these are the next two events that will hopefully give us some more money," she added.

Samantha would like to thank everyone at the Castle Bar for their help and support and hopes that will continue in the future.
