Sandhurst dental graduate knows drill

An East Antrim man has graduated from the Army’s Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst at a recent prestigious ceremony.

Second Lieutenant Andrew McCammon, from Whitehead, was one of 60 officer graduates who took part in the Sovereign’s Parade in front of Her Majesty’s representatives Defence Secretary Michael D Fallon and Chief of General Staff Sir Nick Carter.

Passing out from Sandhurst marks the completion of ten weeks of intensive military and academic training, combined with adventurous training and sporting challenges. It prepares officer cadets for the challenges of leading soldiers within the British Army, where they will be responsible for leading a platoon of 30 soldiers, managing their skills, workloads and welfare.

Lt McCammon, who will be joining Royal Army Dental Corps as a dentist, said: “Graduating from Sandhurst as an officer in the British Army makes me extremely proud. For me, working with the Army has no downside. I enjoy both the adventure and the opportunity to work alongside so many others.

“The leadership skills I have learnt will take me a long way and I cannot wait to start putting it into practice with the Royal Army Dental Corps and to be given the chance to make my contribution on both operations and humanitarian projects overseas.”
