Save our seas and have fun learning how to do it!

JOIN the RSPB and Loughs Agency at the unique River watch interpretative centre on the banks of the Foyle this weekend at an event to allow families of all ages come along and learn about Northern Ireland’s marine environments.

The event will run from 11am-4pm Friday 29th and Saturday 30th of July.

Anyone who comes along can learn about what people, schools and organisations in Northern Ireland are doing to save our seas by petitioning and campaigning for a marine bill. Northern Ireland is the only country in the UK without a marine bill, which means none of our seas or their wildlife are protected!

Throughout the day, there will be many marine based games for children to enjoy whilst learning about the importance of looking after our oceans.

Also at the event will be Northern Ireland’s most famous fish. The life sized model basking shark that marched up the Stormont mile last month followed by 150 protesters will be there for both days of the event. This giant 24-foot long model is a great a way of demonstrating that without protection even the biggest of our marine wildlife can become vulnerable to pollution, over fishing and increasing sea temperatures.

The Loughs Agency will also be opening their touch tanks to visitors so everyone can get up close and personal with the wildlife we are trying to save.

If you can’t make this event don’t panic the RSPB and Loughs Agency will be teaming up again at the River watch on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th of August. This time the focus will be on riverside wildlife. Activities include a riverside nature trail for families, riverside games and pond dipping. So put these dates in your diaries and see what nature has to offer your family this summer.
