Scaffolding up at Stute

ANOTHER of Lurgan's historic buildings is undergoing a facelift.

Scaffolding went up around the Mechanics Institute this week as the landmark building undergoes a touch-up.

Work is set to continue for the next two weeks according to the Institute's Alan Hamilton.

"The building was due a bit of work this year and we hope it will be finished in a fortnight or so," he said.

"It's nothing major, there will be no big changes to the colour scheme of the building, it's just repainting mainly."

The Institute is the latest of Lurgan's iconic buildings to become shrouded in scaffolding.

St Peter's and Shankill churches are all undergoing refurbishment and the town's public realm scheme has seen Market street transformed - all in the town's 400th year.

Alan added: "The work was due, but with the Twelfth in the town this year as well we thought it would stand out."
