Scarva man sent an abusive text to his former partner

A 33-year-old man was in breach of a court order when he sent an abusive text to his ex-partner, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Phillip Magill, Moody Park, Scarva, admitted a breach of a non molestation order on December 26 last year.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

The court heard his ex-partner told police she had received an abusive text message containing derogatory remarks.

When police spoke to Magill he claimed to have given the phone to a person he did not know and said that person must have sent the text.

The offence happened just ten days after the non molestation order had been granted.

A solicitor representing Magill said he had been in a two year relationship with the injured party and had found it difficult to come to terms with it finishing.

He added that the defendant was heavily intoxicated and had very little recollection of what happened.

The solicitor said Magill has spent five days in custody before High Court bail was granted.
