Scarva speed issues are being tackled say police

The move comes following a meeting between members of the Scarva and District Community Association, Superintendent David Moore and local MLA Jo-Anne Dobson.

Mrs. Dobson said: “Following contact from the Community Association I raised concerns with the PSNI regarding the increasing issue of traffic exceeding the speed limit while travelling through Scarva. During our meeting in the village we witnessed a number of vehicles, including lorries travelling at speed and I very much welcome the agreement from Supt Moore of an increased PSNI presence in the area and also the use of mobile Matrix Boards to warn motorists about their speed.

“I would also make an appeal directly to people to slow down when travelling through the village.”

Also commenting Leonard Anderson, Secretary of Scarva and District Community Association said: “Traffic, especially articulated lorries passing through the village at speed has become a particular problem for us recently and we very much welcome the assurance from Supt Moore of an increased presence from the police in the area to help tackle this issue.

“We also appreciate the intervention and help from Mrs Dobson to raise our concerns and secure a meeting in the village to see how they could be addressed. The members of the Association work hard to promote and enhance the village and we recognise that traffic exceeding the speed limit through the village has become a problem – we very much welcome the assurances from the Police that this is being addressed.”

Speaking after the meeting Supt David Moore of the PSNI said: “Police are delighted to be working with local political and community leaders in order to improve road safety in the Scarva area.

“I am very pleased to have had their assistance to help us further refine our own understanding of the local issues and help us deliver our part in the enforcement and education initiatives which we planned jointly with those present.

“This allows us to apply our resources in a much more thoughtful manner. It is another example of Policing with the Community exactly how we intend it to be, police officers working together with a range of formal and informal partners to deliver policing which will help keep everyone safe.”
