Scarva Sunday concerts to continue

Scarva will be the place to be on a Sunday afternoon as the band concert season continues from Sunday, September 6 from 3pm – 4pm with the sound of Commons Silver Band.

The band concert season, which is organised by the South West Down Bands Association and supported by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, commenced in April and will run every Sunday until the end of September featuring the finest local concert bands.

Come along and take in the sights and sounds at the magnificent Victorian bandstand on Scarva Green, set amidst the tranquil setting of the award winning village renowned for its superb floral displays.

The bands performing this month are as follows: Dungannon Silver Band on Sunday, September 13, St. Mark’s Silver Band September 20 and Castlewellan Accordion Orchestra will be on September 27. As well as enjoying the marvellous music why not visit the adjoining Scarva Visitor Centre and learn about the unique history of the area and enjoy the adjoining Tearooms.

Take in the natural beauty of the canal and gardens with a stroll or cycle along the Newry Canal Towpath enjoying the abundance of plant and wildlife, which make it a haven for bird lovers, including the resident swans.

Scarva Park with its children’s play area is always a big hit with families. It also contains a small pond, and pheasant aviary.

The village is also home to Scarva Visitor Centre and the adjoining Tea Rooms. The area also offers a selection of delightful walks including the Newry Canal Towpath.
