Scent of Spring is in the air in Hillsborough

Although it is still early in the season, Hillsborough Horticultural Society’s Spring Show was well supported by many of the leading daffodil growers in the province.

Entries came from far and wide and although daffodils predominated, there were other flowers too.

The Chairman, Derek Alexander, thanked all those who had been involved in organising, setting up and running the show, which would not have been worthwhile without exhibitors and visitors. President Jacqui Townsley handed over the silverware. The main prizewinners were:

Orr Perpetual Challenge Cup for most points in the Open Daffodil Classes: Mr Niall Watson, Killinchy

The McGready Cup for most points in the Amateur Intermediate Daffodil Classes: Mr Terry Haley, Omagh

The Gray Challenge Cup for the competitor gaining most points in the Novice Daffodil Classes: Mr Gordon Finch, Belfast

Blue Rosette for the best bloom in the Show: Mr Niall Watson, Killinchy

The Mary E Johnston Memorial Perpetual Cup for the best exhibit in the Floral Art Classes: Mrs Anne Malcolmson, Lisburn

The Martin Cup for the best exhibit in the Children’s classes: Miss Rachel Lyle, Helen’s Bay.
