Scheme history

A PILOT scheme started in October 2010 in Whitehead and Ballycarry with four retailers selling £5 stamps that could be used towards payment or part payment of a delivery of home heating oil.

During the summer of 2011, the pilot was evaluated and deemed to have been a success so Carrickfergus Council decided to roll it out across the Borough.

Last winter, ratailers and oil suppliers in Carrickfergus and Greenisland were contacted to see if they would like to participate in the scheme.

Between April 2011 and April 2012, £11,460 worth of stamps were bought - averaging about £1,000 or 200 stamps per month.

Now that the scheme is rolling out across the Borough, the number of stamps sold is expected to increase during the coming autumn and winter.
