School of Music revamp

LISBURN School of Music recently partnered with South Eastern Regional College, Art & Design Department is to receive a major redesign of decoration.

As LSM moved into the 1st floor of 37 Railway Street, above Music Matters, the rooms were tidy, but perhaps ‘clinical’.

To assist in giving it more flavour the school got in contact with SERC in Lisburn and Roberta Campbell, SERC lecturer, gave the project to second year students on a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

The students met with LSM representatives and got to work on their design brief. Various 3D designs were presented to LSM, and after discussions, one was chosen. The design was then made up on two MDF sheets painted in the SERC studio, depicting trees with birds singing musical notes. The sheets were then fixed to either end of music school and the students stencilled musical notes (of all sorts) from one end to other. Complimenting the wall work the students used the SERC woodworking department to design and produce wooden ‘mirrors’ which have been covered in blackboard chalk and are used for announcements and messages in the music school.

Once completed Lisburn Mayor Councillor William Leathem attended an opening celebration of the work, in which LSM Principal Stephen McLoughlin, and Alderman Leathem had the opportunity to thank the students for their efforts. Stephen was absolutely delighted with the outcome of the project and congratulated the students on their hard work. The Mayor went on to wish each student every success in their futures, which by the standard of this work, looks very promising.
