'SCHOOL REBUILD MUST GO AHEAD'

Work on the long-awaited plan had been expected to get under way last year after the old school building was destroyed in an arson attack. However, as the Times revealed last week, the Department has now put the scheme on hold while a review of all its capital projects across Northern Ireland is carried out.

Outraged that the redevelopment plan has been stalled yet again, senior staff and governors met at the school on Monday (April 19) to discuss the implications of the latest delay.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Principal David McConkey confirmed that staff, governors and parents will do their utmost to ensure that the project goes ahead as soon as possible.

“When the Education Minister visited the charred remains of the school last year, she gave a commitment that the school would be rebuilt. There is great annoyance and hurt among the parents and I will be giving them any support I can to help,” councillor Webb added.
