School to benefit from £220,000 investment

The funding package - granted under the Department of Education’s minor works scheme - will pay for the installation of new windows at the Ballyclare Road school.

Speaking about the funding announcement, Education Minister John O’Dowd said: “My Department has agreed investment of nearly £220,000 to replace the windows at the school.

“A total of 185 minor works projects amounting to over £7.1million were agreed in November across all board areas. Of these projects, 52 are in the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB) area, amounting to over £1.8 million.”

Minor works are schemes costing less than £500,000 and are projects ranging from minor repairs to more significant work projects and extensions.

In conclusion the Minister said: “I am confident that the substantial investment in minor works projects will continue to help in the drive to improve educational standards in addition to providing a boost to the local construction industry.

“The completion of all of these works will ultimately provide better facilities for our children and young people to learn in and an improved working environment for teachers and other school staff.”

The department has confirmed that the contract for the improvement works to be carried out at Glengormley High School has been awarded to WJM Building Services Ltd, Belfast.

The total approved cost of the window replacement project is £219,608.
