Schoolchildren urged to adopt 'Bee Safe' habits

OVER 500 pupils from 15 primary schools across the borough were buzzing with enthusiasm and busy gaining knowledge at an event aimed at encouraging children to become more aware of their own safety.

Organised by Craigavon District Policing Partnership in association with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the ‘Bee Safe’ event is a safety learning initiative aimed at helping Primary 6 & Primary 7 pupils gain vital knowledge on how to adopt good safety habits, cope with potential hazards and how to avoid dangerous situations.

Members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, The NI Fire and Rescue Service, Translink, NI Railways, NI Electricity, The Health Promotion Agency and Craigavon Borough Council’s Home Safety Team all delivered fun and interactive workshops promoting life skills, teamwork and personal safety during the three day event, which took place at the Gordon Pavilion, Lurgan.

Councillor Mairead O’Dowd, Chair of Craigavon District Policing Partnership, said: “This event was an excellent opportunity for local school children to gain vitally important safety information in a fun and interesting way.

"Pupils who attended had the chance to gain hands on experience of what to do in the case of an emergency which will help them as they progress into their teenage years.

"The event also helped the District Policing Partnership secure the views of young people on what they think about policing and crime in their local area. I would like to thank all the agencies who took part in the Bee Safe event for making it such a fantastic success.”
