Emily-Beth Trueick is due to have her waist length hair cut this weekend in support of the Little Princess Trust.

The 8-year-old’s donated tresses will be made into a wig to help a child who has lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Emily-Beth is also raising sponsorship to cover the cost of producing the wigs.

The Whitehead Primary School pupil was inspired to go through with the challenge after her mother, Deborah, was diagnosed with cancer.

Deborah explained: “I actually had cervical cancer two years ago and Emily-Beth would have asked a lot of questions about me not being well.

“I tried to explain to her that cancer was something that can happen to children too. At that time, she saw children with no hair and she said she would love to share her’s with them because she has so much of it - she has really long, red hair.”

The schoolgirl’s decision to grow out her locks for the charity has been strongly supported by the local community, with almost £400 in sponsorship raised so far.

“It costs about £395 to produce one of the wigs so we’re just trying to raise as much as we can. Everyone in Whitehead has been very supportive,” Deborah added.

People can donate through the Little Princess Trust website, or there are sponsorship forms in most of the shops in Whitehead.”

Emily-Beth will be having her hair cut this afternoon (Saturday) at Glam hairdressers on Victoria Avenue in the town.
