‘Schools can hold their heads high’

This year three more schools in the Ballymoney area have obtained their Green Flag, as part of the Eco Schools Programme, bringing the total number who have obtained the award to seven.

The programme, managed by Tidy Northern Ireland, is part of a worldwide movement encouraging children and schools to look at issues which affect the environment.

According to Council minutes: ‘Ballymoney has been part of this for many years and in recent times there has been an upsurge in interest. We had four Eco Schools who had obtained the Green Flag, the ultimate award. This year it is pleasing to note that three more schools have obtained their Green flag; Garryduff, Ballymoney Model Integrated Primary School and Kilmoyle.

‘Pupils and staff in all seven deserve the utmost credit for their ongoing commitment to a sustainable future. Ballymoney schools can hold their heads high, safe in the knowledge that their work is on a par with schools from across the world. Schools receive support from Council staff ranging from talks, the provision of blue bins or visits to schools by refuse collection vehicles and crews.’
