Scottish Country Dancing for friendship, fitness and fun

THE chance for local residents of all ages to put their best foot forward and make new friends while getting fitter is now on offer from the Lisburn classes of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.

The next season’s classes start on Tuesday September 11 in St Mark’s Church Hall, Ballymacash Road.

According to Pat Foote, the factors that make Scottish Country Dancing so special are friendship, fitness and fun.

She said: “Scottish Country Dancing is hugely rewarding. It’s enjoyed across the world by people of all abilities. No experience is necessary, and you don’t have to bring a partner; all that’s needed is a little enthusiasm. It’s a great way to make new friends and boost your social life. And you don’t have to be Scottish to get involved!

“As an added incentive, research shows that, as a cardiovascular work-out, Scottish Country Dancing can help to lower blood pressure and increase strength and suppleness. Not only does it shape you up; it helps you to stay healthy and increases your overall sense of well-being.”

The adult class will run from 8 to 10pm. And you’re never too young to learn. A children’s class (open to boys and girls from six years old) will run from 6.30 to 7.30pm.
